[edit] History

  • Originally envisioned as a fan club, Major Duran Duran started in 1993, the project of a group of Ohio-based fans. Affectionately known as MDD. Major Duran Duran Issue #1
  • The fanzine that resulted was irreverent and unique. Its editors were either ardent feminists, Women's Studies Majors, or both.
  • One editor did her Master's thesis on Duran Duran's use of images of women in their videos. After several attempts to get a copy to the band, she succeeded. Nick Rhodes later discussed it with her with much enthusiasm.
  • MDD lasted for about two years and three issues (or four, or five, depending on who you talk to and whether or not laying it out but not distributing it counts as an issue :-) ) before disbanding as a result of Real Life (the typical end of most fanzines).
  • One founder went on to publish UMF, The Zine for the Creative Duranie.
