Manga are Japanese comic books. Within the past few years, they have become increasingly popular with English-speaking readers.

The following term dates to February 2000 in anime fandom:
- manga is the original comic (and I use this term for the lack of any other better word) drawn by the creator of the series. [1]
The following term dates to December 2001 in the Harry Potter fandom:
- Manga: Japanese comics that some people (including the site Keeper) consider an art form. Mangas are also the original starting point for a lot of anime shows like Gundam (and all its incarnations), Akira, Rurouni Kenshin and Love Hina. They come in translations. (I've only read the Chinese ones sold locally, but English ones are available too, at greater cost.)[2]
