The following definition dates to March 2007 in the Pokemon fandom:
- x* - *x* is another, simpler method for referring to featured relationships in a work of fan fiction. The stars can be replaced with the involved characters; Pokéshipping and Advanceshipping become AshxMisty and AshxMay, respectively. The dominant partner (usually the male) is placed first. This format is easier to use and more readily communicates to the reader the nature of the story. [1]
