A Guy Named Goo began his career as A Girl Named Goo on Fanfiction.net in 1998. At that time, he wrote exclusively for Digimon, usually slash. He gained a dual reputation of having a devoted following and of writing badfic, and finally left the fandom in 1999. From there, he tried his hand at Gundam Wing, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Final Fantasy VII fanfiction, before beginning his work on Gravitation fanfiction, where he wrote two of his most popular fanfics: "The Life of Shindou Shuichi" (which was plagiarized by an author simply calling themself "kumagarou", who posted the entire text on gurabiteshiyon.net and later claimed they had permission to do so) and the (unfinished) sequel, "Heart's Façade".

After a brief stint in the Fruits Basket fandom, where he created the first and only webshrine to the character Ritsu Sohma, Goo moved on to the Get Backers fandom in 2003, where he began to dabble in het and gen for the first time, writing the "epic" fic "Wilhelm's Manuscript" and het lemons such as "Enjoyment" and "Walking On Broken Glass'. It was then that he announced that he was a female-to-male transsexual and changed his penname and LiveJournal name accordingly. He also began working on anime music videos for the first time, and created a site devoted to the Get Backers video games.

After leaving the Get Backers fandom, he had brief, unremarkable writing stints in the Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist fandoms, where his writing showed marked improvement over his earlier fanfiction. He also became a vocal advocate of femslash and dabbled in incest fiction for the first time. This seems to be the last time that he was seen in the realm of anime fanfiction.

In 2005, Goo resurfaced to begin writing for the musical RENT. He created the livejournal community rentitarians(1), a RENT general discussion and fanwork sharing community. He has also surfaced in the Feeling Electric, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and House M.D. fandoms, although he has only produced fanworks for the last so far.
