Aladdin was one of the films as part of the "Disney Rennisance" of the early 1990s, along with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.

The Movie

Aladdin is a 1992 movie made by "Disney" and released in 1992. It was based on the Middle Eastern folk tale, famously collected in "The Book of 1001 Nights" or "Arabian Nights". The film was such a success it inspired two direct-to-video sequals and an animated series.


Below is a list of terms and their definitions that are used in this fan community.

General Terminology

AL Is short for the character Aladdin. In use since the premiered in 1992 but didn't get used much until the birth of the Aladdin Mailing List late 1998.

Jas Is short for the character Jasmine. In use since the premiered in 1992 but didn't get used much until the birth of the Aladdin Mailing List midway 1998.

AML Is short for Aladdin Mailing List.

DPM Stands for Disney Princess Magazine in use since the magazine started around 2004. Often used on the fan sites Streetrat and various Live Journal communities.

Influential fanworks

Quest Trilogy

The "Quest" trilogy written by evi_al and illustrated by Kristen continues the life of Aladdin and Jasmine after Aladdin and the King of Thieves starring their when their son, Ali, is a teenager. The first story Quest For Freedom introduces Ali and his love interest Azul as they go on a quest for the bedion leader Abbas. Quest 2: The Voice of Fate has Ali deciding between love and war. In Quest 3: Azrak's Legacy Azul is held captive by the evil sorcerer, Aswad. It's up to the brave Ali to rescue his true love.

Between Quest 2 and 3 Kristin and Evi wrote the three part Crescent Love the tale explores Ali and Azul's relationship over the course of 2 years as the reader witness the grow and maturing as the loved one face challenges.

Azul's thoughts and feeling are explored deeper in Evi's Azul's Diary written in 2001. Ali does the same with his thoughts and feeling during the events of Quest 2 in Ali's Journal by the same author, Eva Luz Villalon Turrubiates.

Finally the adventures of Ali and Azul continued in a mailing list where fans could discuss the saga with the authors.

The Quest stories where written late 20th century early 21st century when Aladdin's fandom soared high. The trilogy is approached as a novel with long chapters exploring the character deep making them real.
