Full name: Alan Sydney Patrick Rickman.
Alan Rickman portrayed Snape in the movie version of the Harry Potter books. He was born on February 21, 1946. His father died when he was eight years old. He studied graphic design before becoming an actor.
A common story repeated often in press and online biographies about Alan Rickman is that he suffered a speech disability in his youth: the report-stemming from an unauthorized biography written by Maureen Paton- being that his lower jaw was very tight, causing his words to be indistinct and muffled. However, Alan Rickman himself has gone on record to deny any memory of a speech impediment. He stated in an interview with Phil Wood for BBC Radio Manchester- dated June 28 2007- that this anecdote is not true and just "rubbish" from "a particular book (presumbaly Ms. Paton's.)" [1]
On November 16, 2001, the Snape Slash community benefited as a result of the opening of the first Harry Potter movie in theaters. This is mostly owed to fans finding Alan Rickman attractive. [2]
