Alias Smith and Jones first ran on television in the period between 1971 and 1973. The activities of the early fandom are not well known. What is known is that by 1998, this fandom had a small on-line presence. Evidence of this includes Asjfans, an Alias Smith and Jones fan fiction mailing list. It was founded on November 4, 1998.

- On January 21, 1971, Alias Smith and Jones premiered on television in the United States. [1]
- On September 27, 1971, Alias Smith and Jones premiered on television in the Netherlands. [2]

- On February 4, 1976, Alias Smith and Jones premiered on television in France. [4]

- On August 8, 1998, the fansite Alias Smith & Jones Collection was created. [5]
- On November 4, 1998, the mailing list asjfans was created. [6]

- On June 28, 2000, One Way Out of Sloanville by C.J1 became the first Alias Smith and Jones story published on FanFiction.Net. [7][8]

- On February 15, 2001, the mailing list asjcollection was created as an announcement list for the fansite, Alias Smith & Jones Collection. [9]
- On May 19, 2001, the mailing list AliasSmithandJonesPDBM was created. [10]
- "Roger Davis will be one of the actors appearing at the annual Dark Shadows Festival, to be held in New York City on August 17-19." [11]

- In 2002, "Dennis Fimple, who played Kyle Murtry on AS&J, has died at the age of 61." [12]
- "The UK cable channel Granada Plus will begin airing AS&J on January 1, 2002. " [13]
- "Roger Davis will be attending the 16th annual Dark Shadows Festival on June 27, 2002 in Anaheim, CA." [14]

- On June 6, 2003, the mailing list AliasSmithAndJonesTVShow was created. [15]
- In 2003, Marten Ellstrom, a Swedish filmmaker and distant cousin of Pete Duel started a project to remake Alias Smith and Jones.

- "Monty Laird, AS&J stunt coordinator, weapons expert, and Ben's stand-in, died on April 16, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada." [16]
- On June 25, 2004, Trubel in Four Corners by Cheyenne's Dream became the first German language Alias Smith and Jones story published on FanFiction.Net. [17][18]
- On July 19, 2004, the website http://www.aliassmithandjones.net/ was created for the remake of Alias Smith and Jones. [19]

- "The Starz/Encore Westerns channel in the US will begin airing AS&J on January 1, 2005. They will kick off with a 12 hour AS&J marathon on New Year's Day from 6 AM to 6 PM. Starting January 2, the show will air Monday through Friday at 5-6 PM. " [20]
- On February 9, 2005, the mailing list AliasSmithandJonesFanFic was created. [21]
- On March 19, 2005, the slash friendly LiveJournal community aliassmithjones was created. [22]
- On April 2, 2005, the slash mailing list ASJ-Slash was created. [23]
- On May 20, 2005, J.D. Cannon, who played Harry Briscoe on AS&J, died at the age of 83. [24]
- "Alias Smith and Jones: The Story of Two Pretty Good Bad Men by Sandra K. Sagala and JoAnne M. Bagwell began shipping on August 12, 2005." [25]

- "Ben and Roger will both be signing autographs (for the first time together) at the Hollywood Collector's Show in Burbank, California on January 27 and 28, 2006." [27]
- "Ben and Roger will be signing the new book Alias Smith and Jones: The Story of Two Pretty Good Bad Men along with the authors JoAnne Bagwell and Sandra Sagala on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Reel to Reel. " [28]
- "Ben will be making a very rare personal appearance at the Outlawed Convention in the Netherlands on Saturday March 25, 2006. It will be at Condor City, a western village in The Hague." [29]

- On June 23, 2006, the official MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/87704987 was created for the remake of Alias Smith and Jones. [31]

- On March 29, 2007, the official MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/rogerdavisonline was created by Roger Davis' cousin Mike Shannon. [35]
- "Paul Green's biography of Pete was released on May 30, 2007. " [36]
- On May 31, 2007, It Ain’t Over ‘Till it’s Over by jdsampson became the first Alias Smith and Jones story published on FanLib.
