The show starred Christopher Timothy as James Herriot, Robert Hardy as senior partner Siegfried Farnon, Peter Davison as Siegfried's younger brother Tristan Farnon, Carol Drinkwater as Helen Herriot (seasons 1-3), Lynda Bellingham as Helen (seasons 4-7) and John McGlynn as Calum Buchanan.
