On May 23, 1993, alt.drwho.creative was created for the purpose of Doctor Who fans having a place to post their Doctor Who fan fiction.

In 1996, some members of the alt.drwho.creative newsgroup were inspired by the news of the forthcoming Doctor Who TV Movie. They teamed up to write the round robin fanfic DeathRace!. This became the first of the Internet Adventures (IAs) a series of round robins pitting the eighth Doctor against old foes from the TV series[1].

The IAs inspired further round robin projects including the Missing Internet Adventures (MIAs) featuring previous Doctors, and the Companion Internet Adventures (CIAs) for Doctorless stories[2].

On 23 January, 1998, Tyler Dion posted A Quiet Night Out to the newsgroup alt.drwho.creative. The story introduced This Time Round (TTR), a Subreality-style alternate universe that has remained popular with the newsgroup's authors to this day. See the This Time Round FAQ for more details.

In recent years, the group has seen a decline in trafic, like most Usenet groups, as more fans post to websites insted.
