AR (Alternate Reality): Similar to AU, only the characters remain within the pokemon-verse. Also known as Divergence. Example: Ash never becoming a pokemon trainer [1]

The following definition dates to March 2008 in the Sailor Moon fandom:

AU/AR - Alternate Universe/Reality; basically, the characters exist; the original plotline doesn’t. [2]
