[edit] Introduction

Amy Amanda Allen (hence her nickname "Triple A") was a character from the first and second seasons of The A-Team portrayed by actress Melinda Culea. A newspaper reporter who seeks out the team in the pilot episode to find a missing associate, she decides that she wants to help the team and work with them as an outside "informant". With her reporting she tries to help the team's image in the press, and also find out information through her connections.

The inclusion of a female team member was a troublesome issue from the start--particularly behind the scenes. Melinda Culea, according to fellow cast members interviewed in the 2005 program "Bring Back The A-Team", Melinda really wanted the character to be a full member of the team: carrying guns, fighting, actively participating in the action. This did not sit well with producers and some of the male actors who told her to "just be a girl"--and in fact made it clear from the start that the presence of her character was not appreciated by them.

Amy was replaced part-way through season two with Tawnia Baker, portrayed by Marla Heasley who was brought in to be more "feminine". However, most fans balked at the change and felt Amy had been the better, most interesting character, and eventually Tawnia was written out as well. From the third season on there was no female character brought in as a regular member of the team. Amy was a liked character by many fans, though, who used her in many ways in fan-fiction. Shipping fic featuring Amy paired with Face and H.M. Murdock (and to a lesser extent, Hannibal Smith has been popular through the years.
