[edit] General biography
Arkaidy is a Canadian Masters Candidate student. She has travelled to France, Egypt, Holland, San Fransisco, and extensively in Japan; these travels often influence her writing, especially her 2007 Nihongo [1] series. Arkaidy focusses particularily on the whys and wherefores of the Mary Sue as a literary device and genre. Many of her fics, especially the on-going pan-fandom Slipstream [2] series (currently four stories with the intent of publishing several more)and the complete Xena/Hercules Across Time [3] series explore what it means to be a Mary Sue, why people write them, and what it would realistically be like to actually fall into a fandom. With her fics, Arkaidy seeks to breakdown and build back the Mary Sue and push MS readers and writers towards a new kind of Sue who is critical, literary, and aware. Arkaidy is pursuing a professional career in writing. Her first professional publication is 2008's (Back) [4]. Arkaidy is also working on the Swirlygate[5] fanvid series as writer and playing Lt. Col. Joan Sheppard. She is the same author as Losyark [6].
