[edit] The Show
The Avengers began in 1961 as a straightforward spy/police drama, and featurrd Ian Hendy as a doctor whose fiance is murdered by drug dealers in the first episode, "Hot Snow." He is recruited to work for a ministry by agent John Steed (Patrick Macnee). When Hendry left the show, Honor Blackman joined as the leather-loving judo expert, Cathy Gale. Honor Blackman left the show to film Goldfinger, and Diana Rigg joined the cast as Mrs Emma Peel. When she left the cast, Linda Thorson as Tara King joined.
Emma Peel is the most popular companion, while some fans disliked Tara King. The Cathy Gale episodes are considered by some not to have high production values.
