The community was created as an extension of lol_meme, specifically for anon meme discussion related to bandom. As the bandflesh wiki states,
- bandflesh is an ongoing bandom anonmeme located on JournalFen, formerly on GreatestJournal. We don't make lampshades out of Pete Wentz's skin... yet.[1]
[edit] Moderators
Everyone is/can be a moderator. That is why no one is supposed to delete anything. They do not give out admin account access automatically any more, even if new members out themselves, but the n00b account is always on offer.
[edit] Community history
- On June 5, 2007, the community was created on GreatestJournal. On December 10, 2007, the community was moved to Journalfen after GreatestJournal's demise. [2]
- As of June 9, 2008, the community had received 362,335 comments since its move to Journalfen, and an equivalent amount on GreatestJournal.[3]
- On June 9, 2008, the community was featured on Fandom Wank. [4]
- In July 2009, some people were blaming bandflesh for the recent Warnings Fail in the media fandom area of bandom, and the supposed "toxic" nature of the fandom. Some fans were even stating they would unfriend anyone they knew to be a member of bandflesh. Others defended the group.[5],[6]

As of June 9, 2008, the community had 57 members and was watched by 58 people. These are RP accounts. RP accounts do not correspond to actual member numbers, and no RP account is assigned to any one member. Fleshers do not join the community with their actual accounts, as it is an anonymous community, and multiple fleshers may use one account to RP.
