Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was a cartoon that aired as a spin-off of the popular Toy Story movie series. Despite the original connection, however, the cartoon did not tie in to the movies.

[edit] The cartoon and canon

Originally proposed as the 'cartoon that launched the toys' in Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was a joint, animated Disney/Pixar production. Using traditional two-dimensional animation, it was a science-fiction cartoon with both distinctively intelligent storytelling and humor. The first main character was Buzz Lightyear of Toy Story fame (voiced by Patrick Warburton), but instead of being a toy pretending to be a Space Ranger, this Buzz was the real thing. However, even given that the cartoon bears his name, Buzz had a main cast that featured with him, and episodes were not always focused solely on him. Amongst the others on the main cast were Mira Nova (voiced by Nicole Sullivan), XR (voiced by both Larry Miller and Neil Flynn), and Booster Munchapper (voiced by Stephen Furst).

There was likewise a large guest and supporting cast that were often voiced by people who are famous both in live-action series and in cartoons. This cartoon has strong ties to both Star Trek and Star Wars.

Below is a list of terms and their definitions that are used by some, though not all, of this fan community.

  • Beer - Shorthand for "Buzz/Mira"
  • BLoSC - Abbreviation for "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command"
  • Marred - Shorthand for "XR/Mira"
  • NOS - Prefix used for associating the energy vampire NOS-4-A2 with a certain fan media or person(e.g.: NOSfic, NOSgirl,NOSvid, etc.)
  • Wine - Shorthand for "Warp/Mira"
  • XR.2 - Shorthand for "XR/42"
  • Big Mac - Shorthand for "Mira/Romac"

  • August 8th: the direct-to-video pilot movie for the series, 'Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins', is released.
  • August 15th: the first Buzz Lightyear of Star Command fanfiction on Fanfiction.net, Mock Speed, is published. [1]
  • October 8th: the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Yahoo! group buzz_star_command is created. [2]

  • June 23rd: the LiveJournal community 'thebuzz' is created. [3]

  • July 3rd: the first Buzz Lightyear of Star Command fanart on DeviantART is posted. [4]
  • November 27th: the Star Command Message Boards forum is created. [5]

  • June 6th: the DeviantART club 'BLoSC-Fans-United' is created. [6]

  • January 10th: the Star Command RPGs forum is created. [7]
  • Sometime before December: the first BLoSC fanvid, 'Like Humans Do', is posted on YouTube. Sadly, this video is no longer available anywhere on the Internet.
  • December 1st: The XR Fan Club forum is created. [8]
