[edit] General biography

capnenrefir was born on April 8, 1990. He was adept in the literary arts from a young age, and had mastered Tolkien by the age of 10. His favorite books throughout his childhood were the Animorphs books; a love affair which continues to this day. He has been a fan of the series since, quite literally, the very beginning. capnnerefir is one of the 'proud few' who can claim to have started with book 1 back in 1996 and has continued with it for the last 12 years. He has stated on several occasions that, "...[M]y deepest regret is that I was never able to collect the whole [Animorphs] series. the books got harder and harder to find as I got older, and eventually, they were basically impossible to come across. The fact that I still don't own all of them, in physical form, still drives me nuts." capnnerefir currently possesses the complete Animorphs series in eBook format.

capnnerefir grew up in a town of no note, in the United States of America, where he currently resides. He graduated from his high school in the top five percent (5%) of his class and was accepted to a currently undisclosed college. Said college meets all the standards of an Ivy League university except for adequate funding from its alumni base. capnnerefir is majoring, of course, in English; specifically in creative writing.

At the age of sixteen (16), capnnerefir began work on his own original novel, for which he is currently seeking a publisher. He is also currently writing a squeal to the first novel.

capnnerefir began writing fanfiction during the summer of 2008. He was out of high school and was, quite simply, bored. He had recent renewed his love of the Animorphs series and began writing continuations of the series. These eventually came to be known as Neomorphs amongst their readers.

capnnerefir is disproportionately grateful for any fanart drawn for Neomorphs and is currently seeking a 'cover artist' for his works.

The Neomorphs series is currently still in production.

[edit] capnnerefir: The Man

While his writing takes on a professional tone, minor notes and interviews with capnnerefir reveal that he is, in actuality, best described as, "A sexy man-beast." This is best illustrated by a QnA session with him. A nearly identical interview can be found at the indicated source. [1]

I. What was your inspiration for writing the series?

C. Animorphs.

I...

C. That's not a question.

I. Care to elaborate?

C. Sure. See, your silence was not a question. Since this is a question and answer session, you are obligated to ask a question. Or one of us is. I guess it's my turn. You seeing anybody?

I. I meant would you care to elaborate on your answer of "Animorphs?"

C. Again, that wasn't a question.

I. Damn. This is hard. Okay, will you elaborate on your first answer?

C. Yes.

I. ...

C. Oh, you wanted me to do it now? Why didn't you say so? I answered simply because it should be obvious that the series was inspired by Animorphs. Specifically, by the parts of the series I have refused to accept, such as the ending. Although I got over my bitterness at KAA for killing off Rachel, I couldn't accept how inconclusive the ending was. I wanted to conclude it. So I'm doing that and having a hell of a time along the way.

I. What was your first experience with the Animorphs series?

C. A sexual one. Oh, wait, that was with soup (don't ask; it's a long story. I'll write it once I'm done with the series; it'll probably take as long). My first experience is a typical one. I bought book 1 shortly after it came out, read it, loved it, and continued from there. I'm one of the proud few who have been with the series since the very beginning.

I. What's your favorite Animorphs book?

C. Hmm... That's like asking me to choose which of my hairs is my favorite. There are some that I have no opinion on (like my leg hair), some that I'd like to remove (like some other hair), and some that I love (like the incredible mane of hair I swing around on my head). I can't choose which of my head hairs are my favorites. Now, the books that fall into the head-hair category are as follows: All Tobias books, most Rachel ones, books involving off-the-wall stuff, and anything with the Drode. If I had to choose one book, though, it would be book 33.

I. Which of the canon characters is your favorite?

C. Tobias, as you can probably tell from my books. Take any guess of reasons you want, most of them will probably be true. After that, it's definitely the Drode, then Crayak, the Howlers, David, Marco, Rachel, Elfangor, Ax, and so on and so forth...

I. You seem to imply that you've included every character in the series in your list...

C. That's not a question, but I'll answer it. You asked me what my favorite canon character was, so I answered. Now, any list that has my favorite must have all the others, since a favorite character exists only by virtue of comparison to an unfavorable one. Now, if you want to know my least favorites, I'd have to say Cassie and Visser One.

I. What about your own characters?

C. I love what I've done to Tobias, and I've grown attached to Al as well. I have a special fondness for all the characters I've created or changed. But of the truly original ones, I have to say that Guraff gets top spot. I love the idea of a noble, honorable warrior who will stop at nothing to destroy mankind.

I. Which of your books is your favorite.

C. Hard to say. The Revival seems to be my most popular, but I love all the action in The Hunters (currently unpublished, but I'll probably forget to edit this when I do publish it). I loved bringing Cao Cao into The Weapon, too. Really, though, I think that goes to The Offensive. That feels like when I really made the series my own.

I. Out of curiosity, why Cao Cao and Zhang Liao?

C. Cao Cao's my hero. I believe he has been severely misunderstood by history and I'm doing my part to portray him the way I really believe he was. As for Zhang Liao, I love the Battle of He Fei and thought that a pair of Howlers there would help to explain a lot. Also, 'cause Zhang Liao was the pimpnist man in China.

I. What is Streetlight Manifesto and why do you quote them at the end of every book?

C. Streetlight is one of my favorite bands, both due to their musical abilities, and the deep meaning of their lyrics. Also, because their songs seem to fit well with my books. In fact, there are times when I base the story off of their songs.

I. Upon close inspection, it seems that some of the lyrics you quote as being from Streetlight Manifesto were originally from Catch 22...

C. Once again, not a question.

I. Do you care to explain that?

C. Much better. The 'overlap' you're seeing is due to the Keasbey Nights album, which was originally by Catch 22, another band I love. Some of their members, most notably Thomas Kalnoky, broke off and joined with some members of another band (One Cool Guy) and formed Streetlight Manifesto. Since Thomas wrote all of the stuff on Catch 22's Keasbey, I consider it his property (and the law seems to agree). Streetlight Manifesto remade the album. Hence the overlap. While the songs were originally by Catch 22, they are now (at least in my mind) the property of Streetlight Manifesto.

I. Are any of your books based on real-life experiences.

C. Yeah; part of the series is based on the time I impregnated my girlfriend on top of a Ferris Wheel. And the time I went to ancient China. And the time...

I. You're not going to take this seriously, are you?

C. Of course not. I'm capnnerefir b :D d

I. What is that symbol?

C. That, my friend, is a smiling face with two thumbs up. See it now?

I. Yes, yes I do.

C. ...

I. Yes, yes I do?

C. Much better.

I. Several of your readers have stated that they are willing to accept Neomorphs as canon with the original storyline. What are your feelings on that?

C. My original thought is: Hot damn, I'm good. My thoughts after that, once I've concentrated on things a bit, change to something slightly different: hot diggity damn, I'm uber awesome. I'm glad people enjoy them so much.

I. You have, however, received some sharp criticism for such things as killing major characters from the original series and for changing the original characterization. How do you respond to that?

C. With violence.

I. You are joking?

C. Uh...sure... Although, since its hard to get at people over the Internet (although I have my ways...), I also like to respond with words. Specifically, these words. I killed some major characters early on to prove that I'd do it. I hate it when readers know that the characters are never in any real danger. I can and will kill off my characters if the plot calls for it, if I write them into a situation they can't get out of, or if I feel like it. A reader once told me, "Don't relax by killing off half the team." The thing is, he knows that I'll do it if I feel like it. That's why I kill people: so that my readers know I can. Also, there are just some characters who I always wanted to die.

As for changing the original characterization, I'll say this: Of course I changed it! Why? Because the characters at the end of the Animorphs series aren't the same ones they were at the beginning. Except for Marco and Cassie. Jake, Tobias, Ax, and Rachel were all different by the end, so of course they're different now. KAA never had the time to illustrate it because she stopped at book 54. I'm taking the time. So of course the characters are going to be different in my fics than they were in the original books. It's because they are different. This isn't Harry Potter, after all; in the real world, people change.

I. Many of your readers have expressed a fondness for the character Guraff 427. Would you like to comment on him?

C. I care very much. Guraff was, as far as I can recall, the first original character I introduced into the series with absolutely no input from KAA. True, you could count Jeanne and Santorelli, but even they had roots int he original series. Not Guraff. I'll admit that, originally, I was nervous about introducing him. The biggest problem was creating someone that the Animorphs community, to the best of my knowledge, had never seen before. Guraff is similar to many ancient Asian warriors. The two who stick out most in my mind are Zhang Liao and Honda Tadakatsu. Like them, Guraff is an incredible warrior who carries honor and duty to an almost obscene level. His honor is probably his greatest weakness. Guraff is a man most of us can respect and even root for. But the thing one must always remember about Guraff is that he will always, always serve the Yeerks and Esplin 9466.

I. Some have noted that your main character, Tobias, is in many ways more "evil" than some of the villains; namely Guraff 427. What do you have to say on that subject? You even go so far as to give Tobias the moniker of "Devil Prince".

C. Tobias isn't the usual type of leader. He would never, ever win any sort of election. And he's not the type to seize power by force because he's not an ambitious man. He's the sort of man who comes to power because someone made a good decision and gave it to him. Tobias, although he cares deeply about morality and ethics, believes that in war, only one thing matters: victory. Everything else just gets in the way, and he refuses to waste time on it. So of course he can come off as kind of evil. The people we label as evil are the ones who do what they want with no regard for morality, ethics, empathy, etc. Tobias is the same way; he just happens to be on our side. He is, by my definition at least, an antihero. And that's my favorite kind.

On a side note, this makes for great interaction between Tobias and his rival, Guraff. Tobias, the "hero" of the story, is willing to do absolutely anything to get what he wants. By contrast, Guraff, one of the main "villains", has many limits as to what actions he's willing to take to fulfill his objectives. This is entirely intentional on my part. Our enemies can have heroes, too; and we can have our own villains. The difference between the two lies in only one thing: which one is on your side.

I. Interesting. One final question. Why did you choose the name Capnnerefir?

C. Firstly, it's capnnerefir; the "c" is never capitalized. I chose it because I took it from Captain Nerefir, the Andalite who commanded the Dome Ship, GalaxyTree that was sent to Earth. He was the man Prince Elfangor looked up to. Now, the thing about Elfangor is that he was a badass. I'll never forget that scene in the Andalite Chronicles when he was cruising around the Taxxon homeworld in a mustang blasting the Rolling Stones. That was when he earned his hero reputation in my eyes. And Nerefir was the man Elfangor looked up to. So he must have been extremely hardcore. So I choose to remind people that, as cool as Elfangor and the Animorphs may have been, Captain Nerefir must have been even cooler.

These questions were written, asked, and answered by capnnerefir.

[edit] Neomorphs

capnnerefir is best known for his continuation of the Animorphs book series. These continuations are called Neomorphs. To quote capnnerefir himself, "This started out like a lot of other fanfiction: another cliche book #55. We've all seen that before. But me...I have to go out of my way to make things overly complicated. So instead of just writing another book (or two or even three of four), I started writing a whole new series. I thought it would be about the Animorphs fighting it out with The One in Kelbrid space, but it turned out I was wrong. Things just sort of took shape on their own."

-Plot Summary-

WARNING: SPOILERS

Neomorphs takes place three to four years after the end of the Animorphs series. It begins the way the Animorphs series ended, with Jake giving the order to "Ram the Blade ship." This would presumably kill all involved. Before the order could be carried out, though, a creature called the Drode froze time and offered the narrator of the novel, Tobias, a choice, The Drode would save their lives if Tobias agreed to help the Drode's master, a being known as Crayak, in his war against The One, which currently possessed Tobias's best friend, an Andalite named Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill ("Ax"), like a demon. As a sign of good faith, the Drode returned Tobias to his human body (he had been trapped in the form of a red-tailed hawk for the last seven years). Tobias then convinced the other Animorphs to fight for Crayak. They agreed on the condition that, if they succeeded, Crayak would never manipulate events on Earth again.

The Animorphs soon learned that The One kidnapped Ax in order to lure them out of their own sector of the galaxy so that he could begin a second Yeerk invasion. In order to thwart this, the Animorphs split up. Some of them went to the Andalites to warn them about what had happened to Ax. The other three, Tobias, Jeanne, and Santorelli, went to Earth to find Cassie and warn the world leaders what may have been about to happen. The One outsmarted them, however. It liberated a large contingent of Yeerks from the Hork-bajir homeworld after using its arcane powers to completely destroy the Andalite fleet in orbit above the planet. The One then ambushed the four Animorphs in the old Hork-bajir valley with a small army of his Kelbrid, deadly aliens with a powerful, poisonous stinger, incredible strength, acidic blood, and the ability to sense small vibrations in the world around them.

The Animorphs escaped this trap and then went to foil The One's plan to free Esplin 9466, the former Visser Three/One. They failed, however, and Ax was given as a host to Esplin. Immediately thereafter, Crayak and the One struck a deal to ensure that their war would not destroy the universe. The main conditions were two: that they could work only through their servants and that the war for Earth must remain secret. After this bargain was agreed upon, the Animorphs all found themselves in Cassie's barn. Jake, Marco, Cassie, Tobias, Jeanne, and Santorelli had been conscripted to fight a Second Yeerk War.

-Important Characters-

Tobias - Tobias became the leader of the Animorphs in book 58, just before Jake's death. His style of leadership was much colder than his predecessor's. Tobias refused to factor morality or ethics into his tactics. Although his attacks were highly damaging to the Yeerks, may were also highly questionable and can be considered war crimes. Among these are the destruction of property, robbing a bank, and even allying with a contingent of rebel Yeerks. His personal life is complicated as well. Rachel is pregnant with his child, and as a result of this, her family hates him; most notably her mother, Naomi. Tobias was made an officer in the Andalite military and currently holds the ranks of War-Prince and Commander.

Jake - Jake was the original leader of the Animorphs. He passed the torch to Tobias in book 58 and then died. However, a deal with Azmaveth allowed Jake to return to life. When the Animorphs split into two different groups (the Alphamorphs and the Omegamorphs), Jake assumed command of the latter. There was very little in his personal life until Melissa Chapman (with whom he has something of a romantic relatinship) joined the Animorphs.

Marco - Marco was one of the original Animorphs. He had the most success post-war, but he found it boring, so he agreed to help rescue Ax from The One. He entered into a romantic relationship with Jeanne in book 63 and lost his memory in book 67. He retains only general memories of the world and remembers no details between the current day and the day he walked into the construction site when he was 13 years old.

Rachel- Rachel was resurrected in book 59/the end of book 58. She fought with the Animorphs for a time, but was forced to quit the fight when she became pregnant with Tobias's child. However, she still takes an active role in meetings and occasionally comes on missions with Tobias.

Cassie - Cassie left the war in book 61, when she became engaged to Ronnie Chambers, and returned in book 66, when she was inadvertently drawn back into the battles. Her fiance, Ronnie, is not an Animorph, and rarely is invited to strategic meetings. All of which is fine by him.

Ax - Prince Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill, known amongst his friends as "Ax", was captured by The One at the end of the original series. In book 56, it was revealed that Ax had become the host of Esplin 9466, the former Visser Three/One. Ax was freed from the Yeerk's control in book 64. In book 65, he lost an eye in battle. Because of this, Tobias sometimes refers to him as "Xiahou Dun", a Chinese warrior who famously lost an eye in battle and then ate it.

Jeanne - Jeanne was recruited at the end of book 54. Jeanne was captured early in the First War and trained as an assassin for the then Visser One. When the project fell through, Visser One wiped her memory and returned her to Earth. Jeanne retained very little of her memory and knew nothing of her past. However, during the new war, she began to remember some things. Her memory is almost complete. In book 59, she discovered that her father had married Rachel's mother, making them step-sisters. In book 63, she entered into a romantic relationship with Marco.

David - David became an Animorph in book 20. He later betrayed the Animorphs and attempted to kill them. This ended with him being trapped in the body of a rat and left for dead. In book 58, Crayak traded David's soul for Jake's, and David appeared in the next book as a servant of The One, with his morphing powers restored. In book 61, he betrayed The One and returned to the Animorphs. David now seeks redemption for his past crimes.

James- James was made an Animorph in book 50, along with several other crippled children. The morphing restored his natural, unharmed body. He was presumed dead in book 53. According to the Neomorphs storyline, he fled from the battle in which he was presumed dead. He ended up on the Andalite homeworld, learning about their culture and advocating for disabled Andalites. He returned to Earth in book 65 as an Animorph.

Al - Aristh Alloran-Sirinial-Fangor is Prince Elfangor's son; Tobias's half-brother. He appeared briefly in book 55 and was later recruited to serve under Tobias, now a Prince, in book 58. He is a technological prodigy, whose abilities rival even those of the Chee. He has a close relationship with Tobias and Rachel, as well as with David, who he sees as the only Animorph 'his age' around.

Melissa - Melissa's father was a powerful Controller during the First War, and was also the host of Mersa 528 in the second war. After he was freed, Melissa joined the Animorphs seeking a chance for revenge. Melissa has been noted to have somewhat suicidal tendencies, which concerns the other Animorphs (especially Jake, with whom she has something of a romantic relationship).

Santorelli - Santorelli was chosen to be an Animorph in book 54. In book 57, he and Tobias endured an unusual journey through time. Later in that book, the two of them traveled to the sun in an attempt to hide the Time Matrix forever. Shortly thereafter, Sanotrelli was taken back in time, where he became Tobias's stepfather. He died at the end of book 57. He reappeared in books 66 and 67 along with Jake. Santorelli died for the second and last time at the beginning of Megamorphs #5, although he was seen again in one of Prince Elfangor's memories in book 70.

The Visser - Esplin 9466 was once known as Visser Three and Visser One. He was the Yeerk in charge of the first invasion of Earth. After the Yeerks lost the war, Esplin was imprisoned. The One freed him in book 55 and gave him Ax as a host. When Ax was freed in book 64, Esplin was without a host. In book 65, the Yeerks captured an Andalite named Prince Imrahil, who became Esplin's new host. Esplin claimed the title of "The Visser" in book 60 and is now known only by that title.

Guraff - Guraff 427 is the greatest warrior on either side of the battlefield. His host is a massive (approximately 9 foot tall) Hork-bajir Seer. Said Hork-bajir is a voluntary Controller and, in fact, is very good friends with Guraff. Guraff himself is an oddity amongst Yeerks in that he values honor and loyalty more than most Andalites. Guraff appeared in book 60 and in all subsequent books. He serves as the Visser's most trusted lieutenant. He and Tobias share an unusual friendship and a rivalry. Guraff gave Tobias the name "Young Beast" and then "Devil Prince" in honor of his skills. Amongst the Kelbrid, Guraff is known as the "God General."

Mersa - Mersa 528 was one of the Visser's henchmen. In book 63, when tasked to open up a second front to the war, Mersa instead revolted against the Visser. The Animorphs allied wit him, thinking that Mersa's rebellion could only help them. However, in book 66, Mersa betrayed the Animorphs and returned to the Yeerks. At the end of book 67, Mersa fled from the Yeerks. He was killed by Jake in book 68.

Salheer - Salheer 671 was once the Yeerk Emperor. He was recruited to aid Mersa 528 in his rebellion. After that failed, Salheer served under the Visser as a tactical advisor.

Kalroth - Kalroth 337 is one of a new breed of Yeerks, raised to deify the Visser. He is completely loyal to the Visser and serves under Guraff. He is an effective diplomat for the Yeerks, as he truly believes that their cause is just and right.
