Castiel, an angel of the Lord sent down to raise Dean Winchester from Hell, has emerged as a new favorite in the fanfiction scene. While he is most often paired with Dean himself, Cas can also be seen paired with Sam Winchester, Ruby the demon, and Anna the angel. When paired with one, or both, of the Winchester brothers such pairings are sometimes called "Wincast" by the fans.

Such fanfiction took off especially after Misha Collins, the actor who plays Castiel, expressed an interest in fanfiction and admitted to having read a slash fanfic.
