Championshipping

Championshipping is the term used to describe a romantic relationship between Lance and Ash in the Pokemon fandom. The term is also used for Lance x Red in the Pokemon Games or Graphic Novels. Someone who supports this pairing is known as a Championshipper.
Championshipping is also known as WataShi from Lance's Japanese name, Wataru, and Ash's Japanese name, Satoshi.
Championshipping was founded on October 21, 2002 in the fanfiction.net archive, by author Shadow/Phantomness.

The following definition dates to November 2007 in anime fandom:
- Championshipping: (Lance x Ash, Red x Lance) Shipping is a term used to describe a romantic relationship bewteen two people. It means I think Ash and Lance have a romantic relationship. This is not to be confused with neo-championshipping (Lance x Steven) Which I do not support, and which came along much later! [1]
