Sometimes fans become Web celebrities themselves. Ask Palo Alto native Steve Portigal, 31, who has watched his Rolling Stones Undercover mailing list (www.netaxs.com/rzepelaa/undercover) swell to some 1,000 international members since 1992.
``As people got to know each other, they started wanting to get together, he says. ``Now we've had a gathering before almost every Stones show. In 1997 in Chicago, we reached critical mass with about 150 people turning up from Europe, the U.S. and Canada. It's opened up an experience around being a fan that no one could have envisioned. [1]
"A professional street team has been hired to distribute 30,000 flyers - 10,000 each in Los Angeles and New York and 5,000 each in Chicago and Philadelphia - the last weekend of April, promoting the stand-alone mysteries that the show will have when it returns May 1."[3]
