[edit] Introduction

"COSMIC BENTO" was created as an experiment by Iain McClumpha in early 1996. It was an attempt to create a small anthology along the lines of the Japanese monster weeklies and monthlies such as "SHONEN JUMP" and "COMIC AFTERNOON".

[edit] Publication history

The title was intended to be a play on Comic Afternoon, but due to the SF content it became 'cosmic'. McClumpha was the sole contributor to Issue 1, although the cover and production were by his friend and popular fan artist PHIL LASKEY. Laskey started to contribute strips from Issue 2 onwards, the cover of which was graced by the artwork of fan favourite STEVE KYTE. Other contributing artists included Martyn Brown and Harry H Healy. The comic lasted 11 issues before both founders decided to call it a day. It now exists in name only as the gallery website for creator Iain McClumpha.

[edit] Fan Reaction

This section needs more information.

During its run the comic was relatively popular, but its erratic publication schedule and poor distribution may have caused it to be less popular than it could have been. It had a mixed reaction from reviewers in Anime UK Magazine of the time.

[edit] Awards

Below is a partial list of awards this fanzine has won.

Phil Laskey won an award at the Shinnenkai Anime Convention in 1997 for his "SUGAR HIGH" strip.
