Deaht Comes To Gotham by MPhage is the first Batman fanfic to be posted on fanfiction.net. It is his first and only Batman fic. The story was originally posted in October of 1999. MPhage's page on the site has been inactive since Februar of 2000.
Summary
The story takes place under the premise that Death has quite literally come to Gotham. Video surveillence from the scene of a recent crime where one 17 year old boy was killed and a store clerk died from a heart attack apparently caused by fright, shows no one on camera committing the murder. The boy is lifted into the air as if by magic. Batman later discovers that the spirit of death, the Grium Reaper himself, is behind the deaths. He is shocked, when meeting the Grim RFeaper in an alley one night, to learn that Death has come to Gotham for him specifically. He is nearly killed before Robin comes to his aid effectively fighting off Death. Bruce challenges Death to a contest knowing under the rules of death the Grim Reaper cannot refuse. Death cannot use his powers in the fight and is beaten by Gotham's Dark Knight.
