Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English author, comic radio dramatist, and musician. He is best known as the author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

  • Bop Ad - popular nickname for Douglas Adams based on his signature. First coined by ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, The Official Hitchhiker's Guide Appreciation Society, in the early 1980s. Specifically by Ian "Cat" Vincent and Les "Dead" Fuller, but nobody can remember which one of them actually thought of it first.

According to a post to the newsgroups rec.arts.drwho,rec.arts.int-fiction, Douglas Adams has allowed for stories based on his work to appear in fanzines. [1]

This is confirmed by Aquarius in a posted dated August 19, 1998 to rec.arts.drwho, rec.arts.int-fiction which "Douglas Adams allows it to go ahead in the fanzine."
