Drawerfic

From Fan History Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Drawerfic is a term used in various fan-fiction communities. It generally refers to stories written entirely for the author's pleasure and not meant to be shared with a wider audience. The reasons for not sharing these stories can be many: the author may be exploring subject matter which is not considered acceptable within fandom or a specific fandom; the author may realize the story is badfic or crackfic that they do not wish to have associated with their name; the author may have no desire to share their stories with anyone at all and only writes for his or her own pleasure, or to share with a very small circle of trusted friends.

[edit] Historical Definitions

The name "drawerfic" comes from the idea that these are fan-fiction stories which an author keeps "locked away in a desk drawer", never to be seen by others.

[edit] History

"Drawerfic" has likely been in existence as long as fan-fiction has been written. As such and due to the private nature of drawerfic, tracing its history is difficult.

It is generally accepted that RPF has long been written and kept as drawerfic in many media fandoms where real person fiction is considered unacceptable.
