- In 1990, there was debate about the creation of the following Usenet groups: rec.arts.sf-creative, rec.arts.sf-creative.d. Some of the fandoms that were suggested as being served by the creation of these groups included Star Trek, Doctor Who, Dune, Buck Rogers and Berserkers.
- On January 28, 1999, the official Dune website was created at dunenovels.com. [1]
- On December 28, 2000, Dune: The Saga is Far From Over by Nurple became the first Dune story published on FanFiction.Net. [2]
- On August 14, 2002, an English language article about the Dune novel and an article about the Dune movie were created on Wikipedia. [3][4]
- On March 21, 2003, the the Dune slash LiveJournal community duneslash was created. [5]
- On December 13, 2003, the LiveJournal icon community dune_icons was created. [6]
- On December 20, 2003, the Russian language LiveJournal community ru_dune was created. [7]
