[edit] Impact on fandom

[edit] 2008

Attendee reaction to the 2008 convention was mixed. In reports and discussion after the convention,[1] numerous issues were raised by those who had attended including:

  • The venue of the convention not being condusive to creating a "fae" environment
  • With all events except the balls taking place, at the same time, in the convention center, hearing the panel discussions were difficult, especially when music was being performed on the other stage
  • Lackluster sales for exhibitors and vendors
  • Lack of news announcing that several advertised guests - including Guest of Honor, Alan Lee - would not be able to attend
  • High price of food provided by the convention center catering service
  • Confusing layout of the convention setup
  • Whether some of the costuming, in particular during the "Fashion Show", was appropriate for an advertised all-ages/family-friendly event
  • Lack of information about membership discounts/free memberships which were available but not advertised
