Fandom_flies is a recently-created LiveJournal community, made to discuss fandom in general (its userinfo on LiveJournal states 'not just HP fandom or SPN fandom or Japanese boy band fandom, but everyone') creating its own blogging service, where fandom members may congregate and post their fanworks without fear of suspension or censorship. It has an InsaneJournal, JournalFen, and GreatestJournal community. It is moderated solely by atrata.

It was created on the 3rd of August, and as of two days later, it had over 800 members and 1300 watchers.

[edit] Reason

Recently, LiveJournal and its owners, Six Apart, began deleting journals on basis they contained inappropriate child pornography, without warning. This rose the ire of fans and led to Strikethrough 2007. LiveJournal apologised for its actions, but fans were angry, and when deletings began again in August 2007, fandom became serious and LiveJournal user atrata set up fandom_flies with aim to create an 'exodus' of LJ fandom to a more secure, non-for-profit blogging host.

[edit] Aim

Fandom_flies aim to set up their journaling service by the 1st of January, 2008, and have fans move their friends and their works over there to recreate the original community feeling of LiveJournal, an uncensored place where 'everyone knows each other'. In the meantime, discussion is as to where fans could temporarily move; suggestions include InsaneJournal and GreatestJournal.
