- On July 1, 2003, the mailing list number_1_charmed_fan was created. It was dedicated to Charmed fan fiction. [1]
- On July 1, 2006, it was discovered that Ponine Therander plagiarised Claire, Lydia, Alexandria, Etienne Noret, and Mlle. [2]
- On July 1, 2007, Anik LaChev posted the last chapter of Campus, her classic Star Trek: Voyager Janeway/7 uber. [3]

- On July 2, 1999, Whoosh, a Xena webzine, was founded. It helped to organize and foster meta oriented fan fiction discussion. That same date, the support mailing list for the site was also created. [4]
- On July 2, 2004, the LiveJournal community _charmed_ones was created for the discussion of Charmed. It also encouraged the posting of Charmed fan fiction. [5]
- On July 2, 2006, the cara_r_us LiveJournal community was created. [6] This was a Sara/Catherine community.

- On July 4, 2001, the LiveJournal community animefanfic was created. [11] Among the fan fiction communities represented on this community include: Bleach, Clamp, Detective Conan, Fushigi Yuugi, Get Backers, Gravitation, Fruit Basket, Inuyasha, Kodocha, Loveless, Mamono Hunter Yohko, Pokemon, Prince of Tennis, Ranma 1/2, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Samurai Troopers, Shaman King, Tenchi Muyo, Weiss Kreuz, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho.
- On July 4, 2006, the LiveJournal community torchwood_files was founded. [12] It would host vids.

- The first and only Rescue Rangers' Plato Awards Ceremony is held on July 5, 1999. It is entirely written by the fan fiction writer, artist, and otherwise prolific Rangerphile Matt Plotecher.

- On July 6, 2000, Salon.Com ran an article about Harry Potter. The article only briefly touched on fan fiction, but when it did, it was basically to plug Lori Summers's Paradigm of Uncertainty.

- Heidi8's first appearance in Harry Potter fandom dates to July 7, 2000, when she made what was, according to Heidi8, her first post to the group HPforGrownUps.

- From July 11 to July 13 1997, Of Things That Are Not And That Should Be: Reflections On The First Ten Years was held at the Sheraton Park Place Hotel, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- On July 11, 2001, the mailing list GilmoreGirlsSlash was founded. [23] It was created for the posting of Gilmore Girls slash fan fiction. The stories posted there are mostly femslash. Rory/Lorelai fan fiction is not allowed to be posted.
- July 11, 2001 heralded in some ethically questionable actions on the part of FictionAlley.Org's founders. While they might not have liked FanFiction.Net, Heidi did not think it was a violation of FanFiction.Net's rules to promote their new site as fics on FanFiction.Net by posting cookies to stories with a go to this site to read the rest, general site pimpage. [24] Zsenya, who had been invited by Heidi to help with this new archive, was on the mailing list. Zsenya expressed concern over this as she thought this was a violation of FanFiction.Net's terms of service. [25] After Zsenya expressed this opinion, it appears that she de-affiliated herself with Heidi's project as she never made another post to FictionAlleyWriters.

- On July 23, 2003, AFI_Slash, a LiveJournal community was created. It claimed to be the first and only community. It should be noted that this community is small and FanDomination.Net has most stories and authors than this community. [63]
- On July 23, 2003, the LiveJournal community beta_search was founded. [64] It was created so people could find beta readers.
