On September 17, 1999, HPforGrownsups, a mailing list which now has over 14,000 members, was founded.
On September 12, 2002, FanFiction.Net banned all Real Person Fic (RPF). The Beatles community on the BeatleLinks Fab Forum, which had spent the previous two months complaining about the site, immediately went to work trying to have FanFiction.Net rescind their ban. One of their main arguments for keeping this material was that removing it violated their freedom of speech. By September 21, the petition that was circulating in various fan fiction communities had 2,259 signatures.
