- On September 24, 1994, the Fantastic Four cartoon premiered in the United States. [1]

- On July 8, 2005, FOXNews.com ran an article about the Fantastic Four movie which quoted and referenced the fan views of it. It said:
- In the days approaching the opening of this weekend's would-be blockbuster "The Fantastic Four," (search) comic book fans privy to sneak previews have been doing what they do best: trashing the film.
- “It was disappointing. They wanted it to be lighthearted but a little edgy, but it doesn't find its stride. It’s as if they knew all the pieces of a good comic book movie, and they’re all there, but they don’t fit together," said Rob Worley of comics2film.com.
- Based on Marvel Comics' (search) longest-running series, "The Fantastic Four" is about four astronauts (played by Michael Chiklis (search), Jessica Alba (search), Ioan Gruffudd (search) and Chris Evans (search)) who develop superpowers after being accidentally irradiated in space: Super-strength, invisibility, stretching and flame. There has historically been an active fan fiction community for the Fantastic Four fandom. People were writing fan fiction by 1973 based on the comic "The Fantastic Four." This was done in comic form. It would be a while yet before comic book fan fiction became more prose oriented. The split had not yet happened.
On January 11, 1994 alt.comics.fanfiction was created for the purpose of comic book fans having a place to post their comic book related fan fiction. The FAQ for the group was maintained, originally, by Andy Jones. [6]
On January 7, 2004, the LiveJournal fan fiction community fantastic_4_fic was created. [7]
