[edit] Timeline

Below is a partial timeline of events that took place in this fan community.

  • On March 21, 1976, Charlie's Angels debuted as a movie of the week, with Fawcett in the role of Jill Munroe. The movie did extremely well in the ratings, prompting the network to approve production of further episodes. The series formally began airing on September 22, 1976. Farrah quickly emerged as the fan favorite on the series, earning a People's Choice Award for Favorite Performer in a New TV Program.[1]
  • Fawcett left the show after only one season, although her fame was still spreading rapidly and she was quickly becoming a pop culture icon. Cheryl Ladd replaced her on the show, portraying Jill's younger sister Kris Munroe. Due to contractual obligations, however, Farrah would return for several guest appearances in the third and fourth seasons of the series.
  • After a number of commercial flops, Farrah would begin to be recognized as a serious actor first for her theatrical appearance in 1983 in William Mastrosimone's Extremities and then in the 1984 television movie "The Burning Bed".
  • Farrah appeared in the December 1995 issue of Playboy magazine after two decades of refusing to appear nude . It would become the best-selling issue of the magazine for the 1990s, selling over four million copies worldwide.
  • Farrah was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and soon began treatment including surgery and chemotherapy.[2] Her three year battle with the disease would be documented in the tv-special "Farrah's Story", first airing on May 19, 2009.
  • Despite her efforts to beat the disease, news would report Farrah's passing on the morning of June 25, 2009.[3]
"Today was a seminal moment in Internet history. We've never seen anything like it in terms of scope or depth. Historically, celebrity news prompts a worldwide outpouring with several key consumer behaviors – searching, sharing and reacting to the news followed by online tributes has become the modern way to mourn. Princess Diana was the first notable Internet example. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett are the latest. [4]
