[edit] Characterization

  • Philadelphia Eagles fans have a somewhat notorious reputation within sports fandom as being particularly loud, rude, and obnoxious. The most notorious of these fans were known as and referred to themselves often as The 700 Level, a reference to the highest level of seating at the old Veterans' Stadium in Philadelphia. In the 1990's, the "Eagle's Court" was created within the stadium itself to discourage unlawful behavior, where rowdy fans could be arrested, tried and convicted all within the stadium.[1]
  • The Eagles (and their fans) have a long-standing rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys.

[edit] History

In March 2008, "A fast-food cook in Seattle was fed up with a Steelers fan making remarks about the Seahawks, so he hocked a loogie right in the guy’s burger. The guy noticed, and contacted the authorities. Now the poor cook is charged with 4th degree assault, and possession of marijuana which the cops found when they arrested him. This ruling is unfair, all this man is guilty of is hating the Steelers just as much as the rest of America." [2]

In January 2009, "Pittsburgh native and commander of the what will now be called the “Heinz Field of the Heavens” for Sunday’s matchup with the Cards, Michael Fincke, has claimed the international symbol of cooperation as part of the Steeler Nation. Incidentally, mission control has made sure the astronauts have been able to view each of the playoff games." [3]
