Friending meme

A Friending meme is a type of meme which developed in LiveJournal fandom communities. It was a way for members of a fandom to find each other and find new "friends" on LiveJournal who shared their fannish interests. Friending memes generally take place when a fandom is developing a new peak in activity or interest, and as people migrating from one fandom to another want to find new people's journals to read regularly. While they are generally fandom specific, sometimes they occur across multiple fandoms, and they now can take place on other sites, messageboards and communities other than LiveJournal.
