Though the 12-inch figures/dolls which were made in the 1960s, the "Adventure Team" figures from the 1970s and the later collectible figures are the main part of Hasbro's "GI Joe" this article only pretains to the 1980s animated series and it's related material.

[edit] The Cartoon and Canon

This 1980s series orignally created by Sunbow/Marvel animation and based on the line of military themed toys which Hasbro had been making since the 1960s. The plot centered around an elite branch of the US Military called "GI Joe", a group of "Real American Heroes" who dedicated their lives to saving the world from COBRA, a sinster terrorist organization, that stops at nothing to take over the earth.

Hasbro, the company that made the original toys, sent a cease and desist letter to Flenser Films because of their popular re-duddings of the "Knowing is Half The Battle" segments that appeared at the end of the every episode of the series, Flenser removed the original videos, but by the time they had been removed, they had been copied and sent all over the internet.
