[edit] Introduction
Gargoyles tells the story of a small clan of gargoyles who are transported from 10th century Scotland to 20th century Manhattan. The gargoyles become protectors of their new home city. The story was told first as a TV series airing as part of the Disney Afternoon, and later in comic book form.
[edit] The Cartoon and Canon
[edit] Canon
The first two seasons of the Gargoyles TV series are considered to be canon. The issues of the Slave Labor Graphics Gargoyles comic book and the spinoff Gargoyles: Bad Guys comic are also canon.
[edit] Canon-in-Training
Over the years, Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman has revealed various tidbits about his plans for the series through various venues. This information is known as "canon-in-training;" facts that are not yet canon, but probably will be someday.
[edit] Apocrypha
Because the third season of the Gargoyles TV series - also known as The Goliath Chronicles - was produced without the supervision of Greg Weisman, neither he nor the fans consider it to be canon. Though Weisman did write the first episode of The Goliath Chronicles, he later covered similar events in the first two issues of the Slave Labor Graphics comic, rendering The Goliath Chronicles completely apocryphal.
Any Gargoyles stories, artwork, or merchandise that were created without Greg Weisman's direct supervision are considered apocryphal. This includes, but is not limited to, the Marvel Comics series, the Disney Adventures comics, storybooks, action figures, and pretty much all Gargoyles merchandise.
