[edit] Terminology
Below is a list of terms and their definitions that are used in this fan community
Dog or (lap dog) - A wretch. A pathetic shell of a being that can resemble a human or monster but lacks the characteristics that truely define either. A "dog" can be a human, or a freak. A dog is one who has little willpower of their own. A dog follows the orders of a master or superior. Gouls (zombies that move under the commands of a vampire) are also under the "dog" definitions.
Example of a "Dog" in the context of the Hellsing mythology: In volume 3 of the Hellsing manga, a Brazilian swat soldier watched the horrific mutilation of his entire special forces unit at the hands of the vampire Alucard. After killing all his comrades, Alucard asked him the question: "Are you a man? a dog? or a monster?" Terrified, the swat soldier raise a gun to his own head, and pulled the trigger. The swat soldier is a "dog" for giving up and taking his own life. Submitting to the fear, and overwhelming odds of fighting this monster.
Human - Although there are many "humans" in the series, only a small handful of characters are truly "humanItalic text". A strong willed unbreakable, incorruptible individual. A "human" has a soul, heart, and Willpower that cannot be overpowered or crushed. A human is the strongest of the three in that for them, giving up isn't an option. All monsters, despite their superior powers, are doomed to fall to human hands. example of a Human in the context of the Hellsing mythology: In 1898, At the climax of the novel DRACULA by Bram stoker, Professor Abraham Van Helsing and a small group of men stalked the vampire king to his castle steps, and defeated him.
Monster - A immortal, powerful being that possesses strength, speed, and logic that far exceeds that of any ordinary human. In the Hellsing universe monsters are Vampires and Werewolves. Monsters are pathetic in that they were once humans, that gave in to the temptations of supposed eternal life and limitless power in the face of insurmountable adversity. Once a human transgresses their humanity, they have doomed their soul to an eternity in hell. This is a one way transformation from which there is no going back as it comes at the cost of one's god given humanity, morality, and individuality (or soul). From the moment a monster manifests from a shadow of the former selves, their destiny is on a straight road to their eventual demise at the hands of a human.
"In this world, there is no such thing as immortality"-Alucard. (A.K.A No Life King, Count, Nosferatu, Akado, Arucard, The Mad mouthpiece, The madness, Master.
Vampire (aka:nosferatu) - A monster. An evil, powerful blood sucking fiend, that possesses incredible fighting skill, and operates with an in-human logic. It is said that Vampires maintain immortal youth, and die at the light of the sun, however no vampires of Hellsing have yet died from the light of the sun, or shown signs of any weakness to it. "..for me, the sun is no great enemy. I just HATE it." - Alucard
When a vampire takes the blood of an individual, everything that is the entire existance of that one life is merged with that of the vampire, and thus prolonging that vampires existence. . The remaining corps becomes a ghoul, that is completely devoted to the will of the master vampire. A vampire is able to summon familiars forth to do his bidding, like slaves. By taking in vast quantities of blood off the scorched battlefields of the past, alucard has effectively constructed a "castle" of gouls and familiiars that must be defeated first, before his own life is vulnerable. Making him seemingly invincible. However, Alucards greatest strength could also be his greatest weakness.
