Help:Editing articles about yourself
From Fan History Wiki
Managing your biography on Fan History can be a daunting process for newcomers to the project—even more so if your biography turns out initially to be problematic or of poor quality. This article gives you the basics and resources for managing your biography if you have one.
[edit] Commenting or editing
- The simplest way to correct errors or add information is to edit the article yourself. If you do this, you should add the following to the top of the article's talk page:
- {{Selfcontributed articles|User name}}
- Keep in mind that old versions of articles remain accessible. If an article includes information that breaches your privacy, that information will still be accessible if you remove it yourself; contact an administrator instead.
- If you have concerns with an article that you are not able to address, ask for help on the article's talk page. If you feel that an article is unfairly biased, you can also add the following code to the top of the article itself (but make sure you explain what the problem is on the talk page):
- {{POV}}
- If you find multiple articles about yourself on Fan History, combine the information from into the one article that you want kept. You should then add the following line of code to the top of the article:
- {{Duplicate article}}
- You can put information in to an article about yourself that would normally be considered private in accordance with the rules on Help:People. If you include that information, please add the following to the article:
- {{Privacy waived}}
- You should not edit the article from a first person perspective. The article needs to be in the third person.
- The article should be factual in nature and have a sufficiently serious tone. Entries about people are not intended to be satirical.
- Template:Person is a guide to follow, and can be altered to suit.
- Anyone can come in and revert edits that you have done. People can also come in and add additional information beyond the information you provided.
- Administrators and other users will be much more likely to help you if you are polite.
- If you blank or vandalize an article about yourself, your edits will be reverted and you will be banned from editing the wiki for two weeks.
[edit] Old versions of articles
Old versions of an article are viewable to anyone who accesses the article's history. Most search engines will only index the current version of an article, but some may make copies of older versions available in their search results.
Revisions can be removed if they contain information that breaches somebody's privacy. Mere vandalism will usually remain accessible in the article's history unless it is extremely defamatory. Contact an administrator if you feel that revisions of an article should be removed.
