Here are a few tips and suggestions to help you enter:

Wander around the wiki and check out some of the pages for ideas.

[edit] Should I register and get a login for the wiki?

If you're going to be adding more than a few listings to the wiki, I would suggest you register and get a login name and password. If you login, you don't have to enter the special "security code" every time you change or add a webpage.

In addition, you can keep a watchlist - just click the watch tab on any page on which you're working if if you want to see what changes happen to that page. When you login, you can view all of the changes made to the pages you've chosen to watch.

text is what you use to highlight a page that exists - or will exist - in the wiki. This can be used to link to show names, episode names, fan names, names of fanworks, etc.

If you also belong to other fandoms, add to the bottom of your listing (replacing the word "series" with the series name as listed in the wiki) and you'll show up on other series fan pages, if they exist.

[edit] How do I add a picture or other image to a Forever Knight article?

[edit] Fan History guidelines

Start by reading Fanhistory.com:Images for guidelines on the use of images.

[edit] How do I find a good image to use?

It is up to you to pick an image. If it is one you made yourself or one from a source outside this wiki, then you will have to upload it. On the other hand, there are a lot of Forever Knight images already on the wiki. Here are a couple of suggestions:

[edit] How do I upload an image to the wiki?

 1. Go to Fanhistory.com:Images#Uploading_Images, and follow the directions there.
 2. Be sure to include a disclaimer with the other information you put in the Summary box.
 3. Enter this text at the bottom of the Summary box.
 4. When you have uploaded your image, check Category:Forever Knight images by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page you have just made. You should see your image among the others at the bottom. (NOTE: Some images are too large for a thumbnail to appear, in which case there will be a blank box with the name of the image underneath. Click on that, and you will see your image.)

[edit] How do I group all my images so they will appear together in the same place?

For this, you will need to start by creating a subcategory for them.

 1. In the search box on the left hand side of the page, type in Category:NAME, filling in the name of your personal Images subcategory as you want it to appear (do not add quotation marks or any other odd marks)
 2. Click the SEARCH button first to find out if a category with that name already exists in the wiki under. If it does, think up a new name
 3. If the name doesn't exist, click the GO button
 4. Click the red link that says "You can create this page."
 5. Enter this text
 6. Click the SAVE PAGE button
 7. Go to Category:Forever Knight images - your new subcategory is now listed!

[edit] How do I get my images to appear in my new Images subcategory?

For each of your images, you will need to follow these steps:

 1. Go to Category:Forever Knight images
 2. Click on your image - a new page for it will appear
 3. Click on the EDIT tab at the very top of the page
 4. In the box, change to , where NAME is the exact name you have given to your subcategory
 5. Click the SAVE PAGE button
 6. Go to your subcategory page - your image now appears there!

[edit] How do I put an image on a page?

To put an image on a webpage, use the following code. The top of the image will appear on the page on the line where the code is entered.

To help you understand what is going on, this is what each bit of the code means:

 • You start with two [ symbols, and end with two ] symbols.
 • The word Image followed by the colon : tells the browser to search the Image collection for the specified name.
 • Use the full name of the image, usually ending in .jpg.
 • Each | is used to separate the different image rules, which tell the browser how you want the picture displayed.
 • The SIZE is specified in pixels. This tells the browser how large to display the image. If you put in 150px, for example, then the browser will display the image with a width of 150px. The height of the image will be worked out automatically.
 • Optionally, you can write thumb. If you do not specify the size precisely in pixels, this code tells the browser to display the image smaller, which generally fits the image better on the page. (However, the browser decides the size; and different browsers will do this differently.) More important, including "thumb" tells the browser to print the caption underneath the picture.
 • You can change the ALIGNMENT of the image by using the words left, right or center. Left will display the image on the left side of the page; text will automatically wrap around it on the right. Right will display the image on the right side of the page; text will automatically wrap around it on the left. Center will display the image in the centre; text will start underneath.
 • The CAPTION is, of course, the title you give the image. If you decide not to include the instruction "thumb", the caption will not be printed underneath the picture. Instead, it will appear superimposed on the image if you put your mouse on it. It will also replace the image for anyone who has graphics turned off on their computer, so they know what the picture would be.

[edit] How can I help?

As a fandom, Forever Knight fans have a long history and it would be great to document it. You can help by adding both general and person information and experiences to the wiki. The following items already have pages created in which you can enter information, create links to fanfiction, etc.:

I'm going to be creating templates for the following items over the next few days, so that you'll be able to enter data there as well:

One of THE most important parts of this wiki will be our Forever Knight stories pages - the pages in which you can add to an existing piece of fannish Forever Knight lore or can start a new page with something that you remember. We're talking list activities, chats, actor appearances - all of the bits of our history that will fade with time unless we get it written down. I'll put together a template during the next week and we'll see if we can jog loose a few gray cells.

[edit] What if I need to delete a page heading?

You hit SAVE PAGE and THEN realize you've made a spelling mistake. Oops! How can you fix the mistake if you don't have the right to delete a page once it's been created?

 1. Create the correctly spelled page (and click PREVIEW before hitting SAVE PAGE to check your spelling.
 2. Copy the content from the bad page to the good page.
 3. Preview, then SAVE the good page.
 4. Make sure there is no data in the bad page and save it.
 5. Click the Discussion tab on the bad page and enter a note requested that it be deleted.
 6. Enter "Talk:Deletion requests" (with no quotations) in the search box and click the GO button.
 7. Click the + sign at the top of the page and add a delete request in the format of other requests.
 8. One of the administrators will get back to you.
