Homestar Runner was created in 1996 by Mike Chapman and Craig Zobel. In January 2000, homestarrunner.com went online. The content on the site is created and maintained by Mike and Matt Chapman, who refer to themselves as The Brothers Chaps.

Homestar Runner is a web cartoon about, in the words of Mike Chapman, "dumb animal characters". The most popular feature on the site is the Strong Bad Emails, in which Strong Bad, one of the main characters, answers an email from a fan. The toons are typically three to five minutes long.

Homestar Runner: Almost exclusively gen, I can count the number of slash fics on the fingers of one hand. The only het is in either self-insertion fics, or on the sidelines of a gen fic. [17]
