[edit] Fan Fiction
Mailing lists had their period of high influence in the bandfic community during the late 1990s and early 2002. These groups did not seem to exist until free services like egroups and coollist came into existence. This makes bandfic unique when compared to other larger fandom categories like anime, comics, television and movies which has mailing lists dating to the mid 1980s and early 1990s. Some of the early and influential mailing lists included jrock-fic, now located on YahooGroups and dedicated to fan fiction based on Japanese rock groups.
