Jane Austen

Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist. Her works include:
- Juvenilia (not published, written when she was between 13-18 years of age). It contains short pieces of satire and farces, including: Love and Freindship, The Three Sisters, Frederic & Elfrida, Jack & Alice, Henry and Eliza, Lesley Castle
- Lady Susan (epistolary novel, written 1795, not published)
- Sense and Sensibility (novel, published 1811)
- Pride and Prejudice (novel, 1813) (see wiki page)
- Mansfield Park (novel, 1814)
- Emma (novel, 1816)
- Northanger Abbey (novel, 1817, posthumous)
- Persuasion (novel, 1817, posthumous)
- Sanditon (incomplete novel, written 1817)

- BOI = Bits of Ivory, fanfic section at pemberley.com
- Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam = in canon, Colonel Fitzwilliam has no first name, but a large number of fanfics have named him Richard.
- Colonel Studmuffin = often used to refer to Colonel Fitzwilliam, maternal cousin to Darcy.
- DWG = Derbyshire Writers Guild, fanfic section at austen.com, a JA site
- FF.net = Fanfiction.net, which has a section for JA fics. (from Books, select Jane Austen)
- HG = Hyacinth Gardens, a Jane Austen fanfic community at hyacinthgardens.com
- JA = Jane Austen
- L&D purist, E&D purist = a fan who prefers that Lizzy and Darcy end up happily together by story-end
- Lady Cat = abbreviation for Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Darcy's maternal aunt.
- MA = Meryton Assembly, a collective of fanfic sites at meryton.com
- MP = Mansfield Park
- Mr. Thomas Bennet = in canon, Mr. Bennet has no first name, but a large number of fanfics have named him Thomas.
- Mrs. Frances "Fanny" Gardiner Bennet = in canon, Mrs. Bennet has no first name, but a large number of fanfics have named her Frances, often shortened to Fanny.
- Mrs. Madeline Gardiner = in canon, Lizzy Bennet's aunt is "M. Gardiner," but a large number of fanfics have named her Madeline.

1940: Pride and Prejudice feature film from MGM, with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson. Referred by fans as P&P0.
1952: Pride and Prejudice, BBC mini-series with Peter Cushing as Darcy

1995: BBC aired a new miniseries of Pride and Prejudice (P&P), referred by fans as P&P2. Featured Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle as Darcy and Elizabeth. It was widely watched, and led to a huge growth in P&P fanfiction, mostly focused on the Darcy-Lizzy pairing.
1995: Sense and Sensibility (S&S), referred by fans as S&S2, was released as a feature film. It was directed by Ang Lee, with screenplay by Emma Thompson. Lead roles were played by Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, and Alan Rickman. This led to a huge growth in S&S fanfiction, mostly focused on the Marianne-Brandon pairing.
1995: Persuasion, theatrical release from BBC/Sony, referred by fans as P2.
1995: Clueless was released as a feature film by Paramount. It is a modern take on Emma.
1996: Emma released as a feature film by Columbia/Miramax, referred by fans as E2. Featuring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam.
1996: Emma, a made-for-TV movie by Meridian-ITV/A&E, referred by fans as E3. Featuring Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong.
1999: Mansfield Park, feature film by BBC/Miramax, referred by fans as MP2. Patricia Rozema directed and wrote the screenplay.
2004: Bride and Prejudice, a feature film. Bollywood modern take on Pride and Prejudice.
2005: Pride and Prejudice, a feature film, referred by fans as P&P3 or P&P-2005. Featured Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightley.

The Republic of Pemberley - pemberley.com, as it is today - began in March 1997, when they registered their own domain name. Prior to that, it was a web bulletin board for PP2 fans.
Austen.com - the home of Derbyshire Writers Guild - was founded February 3, 1997.
Hyacinth Gardens (hyacinthgardens.com) was founded on February 8, 2002, and now has over 3200 members worldwide (adults only). Fanfic encompasses all JA novels and characters and general discussion.
In February of 2002, darcyfic was founded. On March 21, 2002, Firthness was founded. Firthness.com was founded on June 23 2003 as a new home for Firthness. This site was dedicated to the character of Darcy and was an off shoot of darcyfic. [1]
Austen Interlude (meryton.com/aihome.html) was founded November 1, 2002 as a cooperative of individual fanfic sites
DarcyFic, a mailing list dedicated to the distribution of Darcy centered fan fiction, was founded on February 15, 2003.
The Meryton Assembly was formed in August 2007 when A Happier Alternative merged with Austen Interlude. Both sites moved to meryton.com in December 2007
