- On January 1, 1944, the novel, Leave Her to Heaven by author Ben Ames Williams, and on which the film of the same name is based, is published in the United States by Houghton Mifflin Company.
- In January 1997, Truth or Dare was written by Word Warrior. This story's debut on the Internet was important because the story portrayed Xena as dark and troubled. It would inspire many fan fiction writers to depict Xena in a similar manner. ( Lunacy )
- During January of 2000, an influential Real Person Fic discussion was taking place on Rareslash mailing list, the list Sophie Werkers ran with Joanne. The discussion involved whether or not RPS should be allowed to be posted to the list. As the consensus leaned towards no, Sophie Werkers founded the mailing list, RS-X. This list would be a central pivot point for a lot of Actorfic activity for a few years.
- On January 1, 2000, Cavallon's Gold by KellyA was published on FanFiction.Net. [1] It was the first A-Team story published on the site.
- The Daiken Community at Livejournal opens on January 1, 2003. It was created and is currently still maintained by Crowskywalker.
