- In 1997, Guide Posts was founded. It was the "original" Sentinel gen fan fiction archive. The archive stopped adding new stories in January of 2002. It had over 3,000 stories archived.
- On January 18, 1999, Mike Allen posted a piece of badfic to rec.arts.anime.creative. The story was co-written by Gary Kleppe, Ken Arromdee, Jenny Chan, Donny Cheng, Alan Harnum, Matthew Lewis, Ryoucilo, and Myungsu Suh.
- On January 18, 1999, the Fushigi Yuugi mailing list fyfanfiction was created. [1]
- On January 18, 2001, the LiveJournal community xfiles was created. [2]
- On January 18, 2002, the LiveJournal community arcania_aaa was created. [3]
- By January of 2003, the Westlife fandom had also gotten into self published anthologies of stories. Their book was "Westlife Fan Fiction" edited by Lesley Slee, Aisling O'Hagan. (Amazon.Com)
- On January 18, 2005, lonersinlove was founded on LiveJournal. It is a community dedicated to the Grissom/Sara pairing. [4]
- Around January 18, 2007, Stargate: Atlantis fans got upset about changes in the show. Their feelings of unhappiness were exacerbated by the executive producer, Joseph Mallozzi, who basically called fans lemmings. [5]
