[edit] Introduction

A cartoon based on a line of dolls created by Hasbro, at the height of their popularity they rivaled Barbie.

[edit] The Cartoon and Canon

The series focused on the story of Jem, the rock star alter ego, of a young woman named Jerrica Benton, who is in charge of the Starlight Foundation, which includes Starlight Music, a record company and Starlight house, a home for orphaned and foster girls, which all the proceeds from the record company go to. Both organizations were founded by Jerrica's deceased parents Jaque and Emmett Benton. Jerrica faces competition from Eric Raymond, a Corrupted executive who has taken over the record company with his proteges a band called The Misfits (not the real one). Jerrica, her sister Kimber, and their two adopted sisters, Aja Leigh and Shana Elmsford, learn that shortly before Emmett's death, he created Synergy, a sophisticated experimental computer he kept a secret from everyone. Synergy was designed to be the ultimate musical audio/visual synthesizer, with the power to create holograms of almost anything. Synergy gives Jerrica a pair of magic earrings, which turns her into Jem, a glamouorus pink-haired singer. Jem with Kimber on keyboards, Aja on guitar, and Shana on drums become the Holograms, a musical group to challenge Eric and the Misfits. Only the Holograms know Jem and Jerrica are the same person.
