Joxer/Gabrielle is a het ship in Xena fandom, arguably the largest ship behind Xena/Gabrielle in popularity.

Below is a partial timeline of events that took place in this ship community.

• The second season episode "A Comedy of Eros" first airs on May 12 of 1997. This episode, wherein Gabrielle learns of Joxer's true feelings for her after being under a love spell herself, is cited as the point at which the Joxer/Gabrielle began to have serious consideration.

• In 1997, the Gabrielle and Joxer Romantics Society was formed as an association of fans of the Joxer/Gabrielle pairing. This group was active on various Xena-related newsgroups and mailing lists, including their own, GJRS, which was originally created on egroups.

Conflicts both large and small were frequent, primarily between Xena/Gabrielle shippers and Joxer/Gabrielle shippers. Supporters of Joxer/Gabrielle were at times accused of being homophobic if they did not see or support the Xena/Gabrielle subtext on the series. Joxer was frequently berated as a character (and Ted Raimi as an actor) by some Xena/Gabrielle supporters, who claimed the character had only been added to the show to dilute and distract from the Xena/Gabrielle subtext. Many of these conflicts took part on alt.tv.xena and other associated newsgroups, although it at times spread over onto websites such as Whoosh and various Xena-related websites.(sidewinder)

There has also been conflict at times between supporters of Joxer/Gabrielle and those who write and support Joxer slash pairings, such as the popular Ares/Joxer.
