[edit] The Show
Wilton Knight (Richard Basehart) is a billionaire with a dream - that "one man can mke a difference". He establishes the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG), to fight crime in ways that the police can't. His company, Knight Industries, creates a car, the Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T.) to help the man that Wilton selects to be that one man. K.I.T.T. has an artificial intelligence computer personality, is capable of speeds over 300 MPH and a coating that can repel more than just bullets. (K.I.T.T. also gets incredible gas mileage.)
Michael Long (David Hasselhoff) is a young police detective. He takes part in a police stake-out, which fails. He goes after the perpetrators in his Trans Am, but is ambushed and shot in the face. He is rescued by Wilton, and saved, but extensive plastic surgery has to be done, and he awakes with a new face, and a new identity - Michael Knight. He finally agrees to work for FLAG, just before Wilton dies, and with Devon Myles (Edward Mulhare), Wilton's friend and trusted associate, begins the crusade against criminals who have escaped being caught by regular police forces.
