Man from U.N.C.L.E. continues to enjoy a fan following today, with active writers, fan artists, and vidders contributing new work both on-line and in fanzines through 2007. It is popular as both a slash and a gen-fic fandom.

Man from U.N.C.L.E. followed the exploits of Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum), two agents the United Network Command for Law-Enforcement (or U.N.C.L.E. for short). They primarily are assigned to work against and thawrt the efforts of the Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (THRUSH). The series ran for four seasons, from 1964 - 1968. While early episodes tried for a more serious tone, later seasons became more camp and humorous in nature. There was a made for television movie in 1983 called The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E.; The Fifteen Year Affair.

The Wolf Pack Affair was published in 1988 and is 196 pages long. It is an Airwolf and Man from UNCLE multimedia fanzine.

In 1976, the first piece Man from U.N.C.L.E. fan fiction was published. The story graced the pages of "Warped Space." The show had been off the air for a number of years but sources in the fandom claim that many fen had actively been writing fan fiction for a number of years, at least a year before Star Trek fen had started publishing their own stories. Unlike Star Trek fen, Man from U.N.C.L.E. did not publish and distribute their stories in fanzines; they lacked the backbone of the science fiction fandom to give them that print tradition. Instead, the individuals scattered around circulated hand written stories amongst themselves and had a supply of drawerfics. Some of these stories would later be published in zines.

Examples of the fandom having some sort of organization before the first fan fiction appeared include the founding of the The Inner Circle in 1965. This fanclub was first run by the show's creators but in 1969, it was turned over to fan control.

During the 1980s, multi-fandom fandom zines were circulating. If a fan wanted to read a story from their particular fandom, they may well have to read the story in a zine that contained stories outside their fandom. According to Langley, this would often gateway fans into other communities, creating in them an interest that would lead them to seek out the source material. This would help a number of fandoms including Battlestar Galactica, Blake's 7, Dark Shadows, Doctor Who, Man from UNCLE, Star Trek, Star Wars and others.

At the same time, and with tacit approval from Norman Felton, the fandom in Great Britain became polarised around The Network, which published several volumes of fic, including The Dunwich Affair, and contnues to do so, albeit under new leadership.

The Fans From U.N.C.L.E. was an important fansite.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, there were a lot of Man From U.N.C.L.E fansites created on Geocities.

There are a couple of LiveJournal communities dedicated to the show. They include The MFU Writers Survival School, muncle, Network Command, mfu_canteen, MFU Fiction Finder, MFU Short Story Links and The MFU newsletter. The communities on LiveJournal have grown considerably in the last few years with the release of the DVD set and are as active and important as the mailing lists.
