Introduction is a fanfiction and fanart archive founded in 2001. It primarily archives fanwork related to anime fandoms, though the administrators will add non-anime categories as requested. The site also hosts a small amount of original fiction and art. It has over 130,000 registered members and 6000 registered forum members (these figures include sock puppets, known and unknown).

Because of MediaMiner's acceptance of NC-17 and MA-rated stories, many authors within the Anime fandom realm have taken to posting abridged or censored versions of new chapters on with a brief author's note instructing readers that they might find the unabridged version of the chapter on MediaMiner.

The forums contain discussions on everything from anime and fanfiction to sports and movies.

Archive Policies

All stories must include a disclaimer stating who owns the characters/worlds involved in the fiction. While MediaMiner.Org's staff acknowledges that there has been dispute over the weight, if any, a disclaimer holds in legal issues, it was found to be in the best interest of both the site and the authors to require disclaimers. In a January 14, 2007 news post on the Fan Fiction front page, Fanilia outlined the policy in detail with examples.[1]

Adult-Oriented Fiction

MediaMiner.Org has detailed rules regarding adult-oriented fiction. The highest rating for fiction found on the site is "X - No Children Under 17. Mature Readers Only." This designation is intended to indicate fiction that has graphic content that is not suitable for any children and that some adults may find upsetting. Explicit sexual content, violence and/or fetish type themes must be labeled as 'hentai' and carry a rating of X. In addition, the fiction and chapter summaries must contain a warning indicating the nature of the content within the chapter.

Adult-oriented content of a lesser degree, such as less explicit sexual content, general violence or other mature content may be rated "Y - Young Adult. Not suitable for children under 17." A "Y" rating usually equates approximately to the content found in "R" rated movies.

All fiction that includes sexual content must follow the laws for Canadian Age of Consent. A link to that information is provided in MediaMiner.Org's Fan Fiction Uploading Rules and Guidelines.[2]

Involvement of Minors on the Site

Any persons under 13 years of age are required to have parental consent to use MediaMiner.Org's website. For those who are over 13 years of age but are under 17, certain content is restricted from view based on the adult nature of the content - both the Fiction and Art archives have filters for adult works. Adult members of the site may choose to optionally screen adult content if they do not wish to view it.

Members found to be using the site or uploading adult works in violation of MediaMiner.Org's age restrictions are handled on a case-by-case basis by the Moderator Team. The reports are reviewed and if such violations are found to be present the minor involved is banned from using the site. Attempts at ban evasion may result in an IP ban. Persons found aiding a ban evasion by using another computer or account to upload on behalf of the banned member will also have their account terminated.

Types of Stories Not Allowed on MediaMiner.Org

  • Interactive Fiction of any variety. These include CYOAs, fiction calling for Original Character biographies from the readers/reviewers, fiction calling for reviewers to vote or otherwise determine the plot of the next chapter, and fiction where the author uses readers as characters in the place of a valid character in both the passive and interactive form. Stories of this type uploaded after the January 1, 2005 will result in the author's account being terminated from the site.
  • Chat Fiction. Chat fiction is defined as chat room or IM log transcripts that are cut and pasted directly into a story with the names of the characters being either that of the author or thinly veiled as anime characters. Stories found to be of this type uploaded after the January 1, 2005 will result in the author's account being terminated from the site. Script format that does not contain descriptive passages are considered chat fictions.
  • Teasers. This type of fiction includes previews of fics to come or plot bunnies for potential stories.
  • Songfics where the lyrics outnumber the amount of fiction posted.
  • Stories or chapters that are more Author's Notes than story. Author's Notes should be no more than 25% of the story content. Author's Note Chapters, where there is no story content, are not allowed.
  • Stories that are racist, demeaning, obscene, or threatening and have no artistic value. This includes snuff fiction.
  • Non-fiction. These include lists, announcements, and other non-fiction items.

MediaMiner.Org's Fan Fiction Site Moderators review reports of these violations individually and determine if the fiction is in violation. Fictions found to be in violation of this policy are deleted and an e-mail is sent to the author explaining why the work was removed.

MediaMiner.Org has a Zero Tolerance policy on plagiarism. Plagiarism is not accepted in any form. If a story is found to be plagiarized, the story will be deleted and the plagiarizing author will be banned without exception.

MediaMiner.Org is an automated multifandom fan fiction archive. It was founded on August 13, 2000. This site was popular with Anime fen.

On July 12, 2004, MediaMiner.Org received a cease and desist letter requesting that a fiction by an author under the username "NyliramLlessur" be removed. This letter was sent by a Silhouette Books representative who alleged that the story was nothing more than the novel "Guilty Secrets" by Virginia Kantra with the names changed out and replaced with the names of anime characters.

Upon investigation into the report, MediaMiner.Org staff discovered Author's Notes within the story that suggested that to be true:

A/N!! READ!! This is a Story originally created by VIRGINIA KANTRA I am in no way taking credit for this story! ALL CREDIT BELONGS TO VIRGINIA KANTRA! all i have done was put Inuyasha characters in place of the original. This is not plagiarize since i am giving VIRGINIA KANTRA FULL CREDIT. I liked the story and thought id share it with you all. Please give the story a try I KNOW YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

I know nothing of Japanese or of Japan so This story is an A/U set in present time in America. I know nothing of Miko's or Buda. Kagome and Inuyasha will look the same as in the anime...Inu will look like his Human form Black hair Violet eyes. But they are not going to be Japanese. I do not think i will be adding Sango or Miroku. And yes some people are at times OOC...but its a fan-fiction. so.."deal with it"

Additional review of the fiction demonstrated that the story was indeed copied word-for-word with only the names changed. The fiction was removed, the offending author was banned, and the Silhouette Books representative thanked the staff for their prompt attention to the matter.

In response to this incident, Lady Macbeth drafted information and guidelines about MediaMiner.Org's plagiarism policy.

Archive Funding

MediaMiner.Org pays for its operating cost in two ways. The owners and maintainers pay for the site hosting out of their own pocket. The rest is funded through the sale of merchandise through their CafePress store. Prizes for contests are paid for by administrators connected to the site.

Archive Size

Story totals from random fandoms are from FanWorks.Org, FicWad, SkyHawke, AdultFanFiction.Net, FanDomination.Net, MediaMiner.Org, FanFiction.Net and FanLib as of June 13, 2007.
