MediaWest 2009
From Fan History Wiki
[edit] Introduction
MediaWest*Con 29 took place May 22-May 25, 2009, at the Causeway Bay Hotel in Lansing, Michigan (formerly the Holiday Inn South).
Much like MediaWest 28 the year before, attendees reported the convention had another "quiet" year, even more so than the last. Many regular attendees were not seen, the art show was markedly slim in submissions, and the programming grid had many empty spaces up to the start of the con. Various reasons for this slow down were postulated including the difficult economy, the aging of longtime convention attendees, and the rennovations at the former Holiday Inn South which meant that a large block of hotel rooms were not available. While there was some discussion, art and materials related to the new Star Trek film, it had come out too close to the convention to have a significant presence at the convention.
Fandoms which were highly popular at the convention in 2009 included Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Torchwood.
