- On October 4, 2005, Meyshi joined FanFiction.Net. [1]
- On February 27, 2007, Meyshi published ArgentAmeth on FanFiction.Net and updated this story on August 7, 2007. [2]
- On April 7, 2007, Malganis sporked Meyshi's Tears of MercuryScreams of Iemerald, a story located on FanFiction.Net. [3][4]
- On April 15, 2007, Meyshi published Blood and Milk on FanFiction.Net and updated this story on April 17, 2007. [5]
- On April 15, 2007, Meyshi published Back To You on FanFiction.Net and updated this story on April 29, 2007. [6]
- By July 20, 2007, "Malganis found herself with a predicament. The second part of her sporking had suddenly become overrun with apparent “fans” of Meyshi’s story, and now there were dozens of anonymous comments, all admonishing Malganis for her actions and leaping to the original author’s defence." [7]
- On July 22, Malganis "received a particularly angry comment from the author, in which she, in Malganis’s words, was “complaining about copyrights being violated, [I]nternet lawyers being notified, etc”." [8][9]
- On July 27, 2007, "Malganis was surprised to find C&D from the LiveJournal Abuse team waiting for her in her inbox." [10] The text of this letter read:
Dear LiveJournal user malganis, We have received a report, properly formatted under the provisions set forth by United States law, indicating that your entry located at http://community.livejournal.com/deleterius/2742169.html violates the copyright of another. As such, we hereby direct you to delete that entry and cease using the material on LiveJournal as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday, July 31st, 2007 at 00:01:00, to avoid further action against your account.[11] [12]
- On July 27, 2007, Meyshi published Kick, Ball, Chain on FanFiction.Net. [13]
- On July 27, 2007, Meyshi published Assassination Nation on FanFiction.Net and updated this story on August 14, 2007. [14]
- On July 31, the second half of Malganis sporking of Meyshi's Tears of MercuryScreams of Iemerald was deleted. [15][16]
- On August 1, 2007, snuffylicious and mcpo-john117 sporked Meyshi's work in retaliation for the report to LiveJournal for copyright violations. [17][18][19]
- On August 3, 2007, thestirer sporked Meyshi's work in retaliation for the report to LiveJournal for copyright violations. [20][21]
- On August 3, mcpo_john117 mentioned the Meyshi situation on innocence_jihad. [22]
- On August 4, 2007, morriganscrow and topazlily sporked Meyshi's work in retaliation for the report to LiveJournal for copyright violations. [23][24][25]
- On August 4, 2007, Encyclopedia Dramatica added an article about Meyshi. [26][27]
- On August 11, 2007, Meyshi filed DMCA takedown notices in regards to fan fiction authors who sporked/MSTed her work on LiveJournal's deleterius community including mcpo_john117, snuffylicious, morriganscrow, thestirer, topazlily and malganis, [28] [29][30][31][32] [33][34] and God Awful Fan Fiction. [35] DMCA The text of the letter that LiveJournal sent to a user said:
Dear LiveJournal user mcpo_john117, We have received a report, properly formatted under the provisions set forth by United States law, indicating that your entry located at http://mcpo-john117.livejournal.com/187033.html violates the copyright of another person. As such, we must request that you remove that entry as soon as possible, but no later than 0:01 AM EDT, Aug. 15, 2007, to avoid further action against your account. If you feel that this report is in error and that your use of the material is allowed under copyright law, you are entitled to file a counter-notification, also under the provisions of US law; please contact us for information on how to do this. Filing a counter-notification indicates that you are willing to defend yourself in a court of law against a claim of copyright infringement. Regards, Douglas LiveJournal Abuse Prevention Team[36]
- On August 12, 2007, "John, mcpo_john117 emailed JKR's publishers and spoke with one of their lawyers today who is now Very Interested in these proceedings. Right now we're celebrating." [37][38]
- By August 13, 2007, at least two of the people Meyshi filed against counter filed. People who counter filed included mcpo_john117. He also sent her an e-mail, asking if she intended to sue. The text of the e-mail can be found here.
- On August 14, 2007, "Mcpo_john117 got a reply by phone from Rowling's attorney two days later. He made a post on Deleterius (http://community.livejournal.com/deleterius/2906188.html) confirming this, saying that her lawyers “are NOT pleased with the young lady to say the very least”. He went on to say that the attorneys are willing to collect evidence against Meyshi to be used in the court of law, inviting all those users who had received DMCA letters to submit said emails, plus their original sporking. Most submitted this information, more than willing to help in any way they could." [39]
- On August 15, Meyshi withdrew her DMCA takedown notices and asked mcpo_john117 for help with character development and apologized for her actions. [40][41]
- On August 16, topazlily's DMCA counter-claim was accepted by LiveJournal. [42]
