[edit] Introduction

Cover of Mina de Malfois: Volume One
Written by a "temperamental BNF," Mina is the face of an anonymous original writing journal that has been poking gentle fun at the foibles of fandom since May 5, 2006. Many of her serial stories are inspired by Fandom_Wank classics, though familiarity with Fandom_Wank isn't necessary to enjoy the stories.

Mina, like any good BNF, has her own Amazon wishlist (though the actual author doesn't actually want people to buy anything for her [1]) and keeps close tabs both on how many people are reading her work and on who they are. As a result, all the posts after the first four story episodes are friends-locked (although Mina is good at friending back). Mina is an acknowledged friend of CharlotteLennox, who wrote the MsScribe Affair in June 2006, and she has dedicated two stories to her. Mina has also been supportive of 4Christina.Org [2].

Mina's author created her own fandom, Sanguinity, in which to write, instead of using an existing one. The Mina stories are about Mina navigating her way through her own "real" and "fannish" worlds, and also include fanfics written by the characters who inhabit these worlds. As well, there are Minaverse fanworks by other people[3]; in the Minaverse, fanon can be considered more or less canonical.

Because the stories often refer to real occurrences in fandom, Mina keeps footnotes on her sources; these are available publicly at her journals, and can also be found in the Bound and Annotated volumes.[4]

[edit] Availability

Mina began by posting to her stories to her personal LiveJournal (mina_de_malfois) on May 5, 2006. Soon, however, her popularity had caused her to reach the friending limit and she created a LiveJournal community (minions_de_mina) to deal with all the friend requests on June 17, 2006. On July 8, 2006, she created yet another mirror journal, this time on JournalFen (mina_de_malfois), on which to house her writing. Stories after the first few episodes are friends-locked. Two books, Mina de Malfois: Volume One and Mina de Malfois: Volume Two are available for purchase at CafePress and Lulu.[5][6]

The Mina stories, as original fiction, are not available on fanfiction.net or other archives. Fanfic written in the Minaverse is available at LiveJournal and the Mina de Malfois archive.[7]

[edit] Fandom Size

As of January 4, 2007, Mina's readership is relatively large. She has:

She also her own fandom, which includes the creation of fanworks. [8] The Mina de Malfois fanfiction fan community on LiveJournal (mdmfans), created May 21, 2006, has 124 watchers (as of January 4). Mina de Malfois was included as a possible fandom in the 2006 rare fandoms Yuletide challenge; although nothing was written, three people requested stories and fourteen people offered to write stories in the Minaverse. Additionally, episodes 1-7 of season one of the stories are being podcasted by temaris [9].

[edit] Seasons

Mina de Malfois is writing her stories in seasons. The first season, running from May 5 to September 29, 2006, contains twelve episodes (some in multiple parts) and a "mysterious bit of backstory that was written for the Summercon Zine." As of January 2007, the first season of stories are available as bound copies through LuLu [10] (no markup) and CafePress [11] (as a fundraiser for 4Christina.Org). [12]

The second season began on October 31, 2006 and is in the process of being written. Mina generally posts a new episode or part of an episode every two weeks.

The titles and links to the episodes are available at Mina's journals. [13]
